Please contact us if you have any question on your teens previous class start date that you where given. We will be contacting each session in advance to their start date to see if they still would like to continue with GIDS.

GIDS
Hawaii uses a multi-stage licensing process for teens called GDL or Graduated Driver Licensing. This system allows teens to gradually gain exposure to complex driving situations, easing them into driving over an extended period of time
The classroom phase will be all IN-PERSON (Until a virtual decision is made by DOT). Classes will be held at Waimea High School, unless otherwise noted. It consists of 30 hours (minimum) over a 6-8 week program, with the final exam in the last week. A class schedule will be sent out prior to start of the program. Click on the link to

Behind the Wheel (BTW) is a 6hr requirement. Students drive a certified, automatic automobile offering safety, easy operation and comfort. A learners permit, as well as at least 5 hours basic driving practice with parent must be completed prior to start of program. Students will be partnered together in pairs, sign ups will be during parent meeting (weekend drive time selection choice will be in order of who signed up first). BTW classes will be executed during the 6-8 week program on the weekends. Parents(s) are required to drop off and pick up students at locations in Lihue and Waimea

2. Upon receiving your call or email we will get back you on when is the next available session or waitlist and further directions if you wish to proceed.
3. DO NOT send in any forms or deposit until you have confirmed with a GIDS representative.

Upon your student receiving their learners permit, please complete a minimum of 5 practice driving hours with them. This will help them feel more comfortable and prepared when starting the BTW
lessons. Students must complete 50 required practice hours (40 daytime, 10 nighttime) with a licensed driver over the age of 21.
Parents and student's must complete and sign the practice log and get it notarized and turned in preferably on final exam day to receive BTW completion certificate.

Note: GIDS does not offer only Behind-the-Wheel classes, we only offer Teen Combo Classes.
