IMPORTANT TEEN REQUIREMENTS
- The State of Hawaii law states that the program, which includes 30 hours (minimum) of classroom and 6 hours of BTW (behind-the-wheel) instruction, cannot be completed in less than 6 weeks. This is currently taught online as virtual classes with a limit of 15 students per class.
- The scheduled online class dates do not include their BTW (behind-the-wheel) instruction. On first day of online class, students will be paired together with similar schedules and receive their BTW schedules for each six 2-hour session.Students must demonstrate the ability to complete basic driving skills to receive a Certificate of Completion for Behind the Wheel instruction.
- Teens (15 1/2–17 years old) must obtain a learner’s permit before registering, which is required for a driver’s education program.
- Taking a driver’s ed class is a commitment like any sport, part time job or activity as acquiring a life skill of safely operating a vehicle. Because we do behind the wheel instruction in pairs, you need to be available to 6 time slots on a regular weekly basis on the weekends. Online Class tardiness and absences will need to be made up in future classes. Please be on time and do not miss classes. You will need to make up a class missed on a agreed upon date and time with instructor online for a additional fee before continuing program. Online weekly class quizzes will be given at the end of each chapter and must pass with 80% or higher. Final test will need to be 80% higher as well to receive passing certificate.
- Behind-The-Wheel training typically begins and ends at a Lihue or Waimea location. NOTE: Because of the demanding schedules of students, it is important that your Teen stick to his/her BTW schedule. If that is not possible, we will try to reschedule your teen and their partner. But if that is not possible, they will be rescheduled to a solo make up lesson for a additional fee. With this extra charge in mind, do NOT sign up for this program if your Teen cannot commit to at least 1 time slots a week on a regular weekly basis. Do not schedule a road test any sooner than 7 days after their final exam. This is to allow for possible rescheduling and getting certificates to students on time.
- A written practice driving log listing a description of a minimum of 40 hours of daytime and 10 hours of night time practice driving must be completed. A blank fillable driving log will be provided online for your teen. When completed, the log must be notarized and turned in to the instructor in exchange for the behind-the-wheel completion certificate. This is the final step before taking a road test. Again, to receive this certificate, one parent will need to notarize the practice driving log and turn it into the driving school on final exam day. This certificate along with the classroom completion certificate will need to presented to the examiner at the time of the road test.
